Werther [2 Discs]

The Opera National de Paris mounted this lavish production of Jules Massenet's 1892 +Werther, toplined by one of the superstars of the proscenium, "tenor of the moment" Jonas Kaufmann. The supporting cast includes such legends as Ludovic Tezier (Albert) and Sophie Koch (Charlotte); film director Benoit Jacquot (The Disenchanted) takes the reins of stage direction. The orchestra and chorus of the Opera National de Paris lend musical accompaniment.
