"The enormously popular detective series Taggart originally aired in Scotland, on that country's STV network (a franchise of Britain's ITV) during the early 1980s. The program follows the ongoing saga of Detective Chief Inspector Jim Taggart (Mark McManus), a mordant, acid-mouthed cop with a bulldoggish exterior, willing to use virtually any techniques at his disposal to solve crimes in the Glaswegian streets. Its combination of grisly violence and byzantine narratives made it an instant favorite of viewers and kept it on the air for decades - in fact, long after the 1994 death of McManus. This set contains three episodes of the program - the second two episodes of Series Four (Root of Evil and Double Jeopardy, both 1988) and the first episode of Series Five (Flesh and Blood, 1989). Root finds Taggart and co. investigating the murders of several local loan sharks; Jeopardy has Taggart questioning the apparent suicide of a woman who was planning to move to Germany; and Flesh finds Taggart investigating a nutcase fan of role-playing games who runs a girl down with a car."
