Mark Schatz: Intermediate Bluegrass Bass

Accomplished bass guitarist Mark Schatz concentrates on teaching students basic patterns and scales, fingerings, passing notes, chord progressions, arpeggios, and chromatic scales in this intermediate level video. He also plays the song "Ginseng Sullivan" to demonstrate how the bass line can follow the melody of a song. Students are shown how to play in 3/4 time as Schatz performs such songs as "Blue Railroad Train," "Cry, Cry Darling," and "White Dove." Since many people struggle with learning time signature, a significant amount of teaching time is devoted to that topic. As the lesson draws to a close, Schatz shows students how to concentrate on blending in their bass playing with each song's overall sound.
