Edgar Allen Poe gave a respectable treatise in "The Poetic Principle", in which he defined poetry as "The Rhythmical Creation of Beauty". He stressed that poetry is best done in brief and unified portions, stressing Beauty in elevation of the excitement of the soul. Another meaningful way to say it might be that poetry is a formalized metrical expression of one's thirst for beauty, created to promote some emotional appreciation. The sonnet seems to be an ideal form to meet all these needs...so the time has come to do Sonnets for the Seasons.
