Miss Polly

This 44-minute Hal Roach "streamliner" reunites ZaSu Pitts and Slim Summerville, who'd previously costarred in the Roach comedy Niagara Falls. Pitts, of course, plays Miss Polly, who despite her spinsterish demeanor is a most progessive and broad-minded lady. As such, Polly proves to be a formidable foe for a group of local bluenoses, led by the majestic Mrs. Snodgrass (Kathleen Howard) who are trying to have "naughty" literature banned from a small-town library. Helping our heroine in her campaign for free speech is her gangly longtime suitor Slim (Summerville) and romantic leads Barbara (Elyse Knox) and Eddie (Dick Clayton). Miss Polly director Fred Guiol had been one of the guiding forces behind Roach's Laurel & Hardy comedies of the late-silent era.
