The Art of Igor Markevitch

"In the only known video of his work, Igor Markevitch (1912-1983) demonstrates his legendary skill in The Art of Igor Markevitch, Vol. 1: Dukas, Wagner, Britten. His early talents in composition were honed under studies with Nadia Boulanger. In 1955, Markevitch appeared in his American debut as guest conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In this Radio Canada program, first telecast in 1955, he conducts ""The Sorcerer's Apprentice"" by Paul Dukas, and gives his interpretation of Wagner's ""Siegfried Idyll."" In a nod to the young musicians in his audience, he offers Britten's ""The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra."""
