For decades, Violette Verdy reigned as one of the most celebrated of all contemporary ballerinas and the preeminent ballet dancer among choreographer George Balanchine's prot?g?s. In her retirement years, Verdy branched out into choreography herself and inducted numerous young hopefuls into the ballet arena.
