"Originally launched in February 1984, the Lifetime network built a substantial fan and audience base around its platform of movies, series and specials geared largely toward women. Unsurprisingly, the channel frequently aired made-for-television films produced for prime-time, which often emphasized melodrama and depicted women struggling against difficult, threatening obstacles.
