"An iconic music series rivaled only by American Bandstand in popularity, Soul Train originally debuted in late 1971, and ran consistently for twenty-five years. As created by Don Cornelius, the program featured a veritable who's who of African American music acts, performing in the soul and r&b genres, capped off with a recurring ""dance line"" segment that found various members of the audience getting up to dance and thus revealing the latest hair, fashion and dance trends to the at-home viewing audience.
