Nina Marin, an emotionally detached, drifting widow, finds herself caught up in the spiritual and personal issues of one Texan family and in the political and cultural battles of the country. She needs to rediscover what it means to be a Christian while enduring tragedy, pain and temptation. As she struggles against an unwelcome attraction for an amoral, cynical young man, another man, a mysterious former soldier, asks Nina to help with an important task that could bring meaning back into her life and hope to others in a nation sliding downhill.
