The Las Vegas Serial Killer

"Ray Dennis Steckler has said that The Hollywood Stranger Meets The Skid Row Slasher was one of his best-selling titles on home video, so it's no great surprise that several years later he made a sequel, The Las Vegas Serial Killer, though you wouldn't necessarily know that the two films had anything to do with one another given the packaging of this DVD edition from Media Blasters' Guilty Pleasures imprint. The Las Vegas Serial Killer has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the image looks OK if not great; the transfer doesn't do much to smooth out he rough edges of the low-budget camerawork and the source materials look a bit rough in spots, but the colors are strong and the movie looks about as good as its ever likely to given its checkered production history. The minimal dialogue is in English, with no subtitles or multiple language options included, and the quality of the audio (mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo) is on a par with the visuals. Guilty Pleasures have loaded up this release with bonus features, including an on-screen interview with Steckler about the making of the movie, trailers for seven other Steckler titles and two little-seen short films from the director, Face Of Evil and Slashed (both of which have been sourced from less-than-pristine video masters). The Las Vegas Serial Killer also includes an optional commentary track from Steckler, though he often sounds disinterested and it's not up to his usual freewheeling standards. The Las Vegas Serial Killer is one of Ray Dennis Steckler's lesser films, but this disc at least offers the film and its director the respect it deserves, and fans will want to give this rare title a look."
