"This scattershot documentary on Southern California's rockabilly and roots music scene gets a workmanlike presentation in this DVD release. Rebel Beat: The Story of L.A. Rockabilly was shot on video, and has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1; the camerawork is good for the most part, if not quite exceptional, and the image is sharp with a fine, natural color balance. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo and sounds good, especially in the musical performances. The interviews and narration are in English (except for a few bits in Spanish), with no subtitles or multiple language options. Bonus materials includes outtakes from an interview with Ronny Weiser, a live performance by Rockin' Ryan, a rare music video from Ray Campi, and a guide to finding recordings by the artists featured in the film. Rebel Beat isn't likely to be especially interesting to folks who don't already have an interest in vintage rock 'n' roll styles, but confirmed ""Billys"" will doubtless enjoy it."
