Armour of God is less well-known than its sequel, Operation Condor, which American audiences saw in 1997 as part of a line of Jackie Chan films that were released theatrically in the U.S., beginning with Rumble in the Bronx in 1995. The film itself borrows heavily from Raiders of the Lost Ark, so much so that it's hard to tell whether it's a parody or an attempt to repackage the American blockbuster for Asian fans. Chan plays an Indiana Jones-style adventurer named Asian Hawk. After stealing the "Sword of God" from an African tribe, he learns that the sword happens to be part of the "Armour of God," a set of relics with mystical powers. A mysterious cult has kidnapped Asian's former girlfriend, Laura (Rosamund Kwan); to get her back, Asian and his friend Alan (Alan Tam) must chase across the globe to find the armour, and they get into some spectacular fights along the way. As in many of Chan's films, the closing credits show hilarious outtakes from production; in Armour of God, this includes a 30-foot fall from a tree that almost killed Chan.
