The film is presented in an anamorphic, letterboxed transfer that preserves its dark, rich visuals in a colorful and detailed style. The audio utilizes the original Japanese mono mix, with optional English subtitles also included. It sounds clear and free of distortion. Synapse has also assembled a small but potent group of extras to accompany the main feature. The first and most substantial is a partial commentary track by Japanese films scholar Jonathan M. Hall: he does a fine job of explaining how Japanese culture and society informs the film's story, discusses the background of the actors and offers plenty of observations on director Nobuo Nakagawa's style and motivations. Other extras on the disc include a text biography of Nakagawa and image gallery of posters from various Nakagawa films. One last extra is included via a booklet in the disc case, which offers a thoughtful essay on the film by Alexander Jacoby. All in all, this disc of Snake Woman's Curse excels in style and content and is well worth the time for anyone interested in classic Japanese horror."
