"Panik House Entertainment's first stab at a box set is a winner for fans of Japanese cult filmmaking. The Pinky Violence Collection offers a quartet of films from the uniquely Japanese genre of ""pinky violence,"" a phrase that describes female character-driven films loaded with sex, violence, and criminal behavior. Each of the four films presented here (Criminal Woman -- Killing Melody, Delinquent Girl Boss -- Worthless to Confess, Girl Boss Guerilla, and Terrifying Girls' High School -- Lynch Law Classroom) lives up to that heady genre description. All four films receive stunning remastered transfers, each looking colorful and sharp in their newly minted, 16 x 9-enhanced 2.35:1 widescreen editions. The audio portion of each disc sticks to the original Japanese mono mixes for each film, but English subtitles are included for each title and all sound clear and distortion-free. In terms of extras, each film offers a commentary track by students of the genre: Andy Klein and Wade Major tackle Criminal Woman -- Killing Melody, Wyatt Doyle and Panik House head Matt Kennedy comment on Girl Boss Guerilla, and Chris D. does the honors for Delinquent Girl Boss -- Worthless to Confess and Terrifying Girls' High School -- Lynch Law Classroom. All the commentaries offer noteworthy information for fans. Each disc is rounded out by production notes, biographies for the stars and directors, and original theatrical trailers. The packaging is also worthy of note: the discs are housed in a novel pink, book-shaped plastic folder that offers liner notes and a final surprise -- a CD collection of vintage recordings by ""pinky violence"" star and cult favorite Reiko Ike. All in all, The Pinky Violence Collection is a treasure trove for cult cinema fans and a one-stop education for anyone in need of an introduction to the eccentric joys of this genre."
