"Legionnaire is the first in the Millennium Series from Sterling. The image is very clear, with sharp defined lines and a rich color, especially the golds in the desert scenes. The image is framed at 2.35:1, but it's unfortunate that it doesn't utilize an anamorphic transfer. Still, the picture quality is great. The sound is a major disappointment. Unexpectedly, for such a recent film and one with a very large budget, the English track is only in Dolby Digital 2.0. This is a shame since there are times, especially during a couple of big battles, that a full surround track would have greatly enhanced the feel of the film. As it is now, with sound only coming out of the left and right speaker, it's a huge letdown. Sterling has packed a full ""special edition"" worth of extra material on this DVD. In addition to biographies, filmographies, and production notes, the disc features an audio commentary from the writer Sheldon Lettich. Also, there is a video essay from Douglas Porch, an expert on the Foreign Legion, that explains the Legion's history in detail. Add in some production photographs, a trailer and teaser, and some DVD-ROM features -- including the entire script with scene access -- and viewers truly have a loaded disc. Fortunately, Sterling has seen fit to include the widescreen version of the film. While this may not be a great movie, it is an outstanding disc."
