A musician who blends contemporary pop sounds with traditional Hawaiian chanting, Reichel originally felt somewhat shy about public performance, and reportedly recorded his debut album for friends only - yet it sold over 350,000 copies, launched one of the most lucrative careers in world music, and generated a plethora of follow-ups.
