The Fire Within [Criterion Collection]

This tragic film finds a man suffering from alcoholism and suicidal tendencies. He gains temporary abstinence at a hospital before his doctor releases him. Resigning himself to end his own life, he returns to Paris for a last nostalgic look around and meet with old friends. The former patient goes through the routine before matter of factly going home, finishing the last chapter in a book, and grabbing a gun. Lights out for our hero in this effort produced, written and directed by Louis Malle.
