Dodes'ka-Den [Criterion Collection]

The lives of people in a Japanese ghetto are intertwined in this lighthearted story. A man loses all emotional feelings when his unfaithful wife returns and begs his forgiveness. Two drunken revelers exchange wives, and a father plans his dreamhouse he will build someday for his son who must beg for food to survive. The residents freely daydream or vent their anger out of frustration over their surroundings and the reality that few will emerge from the squalid slum area.
