The Spirit of the Beehive [Criterion Collection]

Set in a remote Spanish village in 1940, a travelling projectionist comes to town, bearing with him a battered print of the original 1931 Frankenstein. Two impressionable village girls sit enthralled at the spectacle of Boris Karloff's monster. When the showing is over, the older of the two girls (Isabel Telleria) convinces her younger sister (Ana Torrent) that the Karloffian brute is real. The little girl sets out to find the monster on her own, and imagines she does so...but is it just imagination? The charming and occasionally haunting Spirit of the Beehive was originally shown as El Espiritu de la Colmena.
