Gate of Hell [Criterion Collection]

Set in 12th-century feudal Japan, this film stars Kazuo Hasegawa as a warlord whose courage is to be rewarded with anything he desires. He exercises his droit du seigneur with the beautiful, aristocratic, and very married Machiko Kyo. Attempting to kill Machiko's husband, Hasegawa kills her instead.
