Director/co-writer Paul Dano's intense family drama film is an adaptation of Richard Ford's 2015 novel of the same name. A 1960s nuclear family living in Great Falls, Montana unravels as a newly unemployed father (Jake Gyllenhaal) deserts his wife (Carey Mulligan) and teenage son (Ed Oxenbould) to fight the forest fires along the nearby Canadian border.
