Out Late

This somber documentary examines the lives of five people, each of whom lived in denial about their own sexual orientation until late in life. The exuberant Elaine, for instance, has nothing but wild humor and unapologetic celebration to offer over coming out at the age of 79, whereas the churchgoing Walter is fraught with regret over staying in the closet until he was 60. Each subject reveals their story with a mood of bittersweetness, as even the most triumphant acknowledgement of their own sexualities has, for these people, come with lament for years lost in hiding.
