The War File: Doodlebugs - Hitler's Terror Weapons

The World War II-era creation and deployment of the V1 and V2 rockets by the Nazis marked a tremendous and terrifying lunge forward in military technology. While admittedly primitive and crude, these devices marked the first-ever guided missiles to be employed in war, foreshadowing cruise missiles and intercontinental ballistic missiles in the decades and conflicts to follow. Observers nicknamed them "buzz bombs," for their obnoxious and irritating sound, and "doodlebugs" (after a common Australian insect) for their oddball flight patterns. This documentary release intercuts historical commentary, archival footage and CG graphics to recount the construction and execution of these groundbreaking weapons. Graham McTavish narrates.
