"This epic-length documentary series covers in harrowing detail one of the most unrelenting and nightmarish of all U.S.A.F. military conflicts: the Vietnam War. The program both presents the war from the perspective of the men who served there - via a combination of incisive historical commentary, revealing interviews and archival footage ('Devil Dogs of War') and conveys the historical progression of the war, from the earliest skirmishes with the North Vietnamese through the brutal Tet Offensive ('Tour of Duty'). The five episodes in this set include: 'Dust Off' (the story of the Navy medical corpsment and evac pilots in Vietnam), 'The NVA Moves South' (the tale of Operation Hastings and American soldiers' encounters with the North Vietnamese); 'The Snuffies' (the experiences of a group of news correspondents who inspired the movie Full Metal Jacket); 'Hell in the Hills' (the sagas of Force Recon within Quang Tri Province, the Rock Pile, Khe Sanh, and Breaker Patrol); and 'The First Battle of Saigon' (the account of the gruesome Tet Offensive)."
