The Algerian War 1954-1962: Algeria - The Final Showdown 1960-1962

One in a series of releases devoted to exploring the history of Algeria, this release contains two thematically-linked documentaries. The first, entitled To the Barricades, discusses the insurrection of French colonialists in Algiers, known as 'La Semaine des Barricades' - which raised serious questions about the future of the Fifth Republic as the French army in Algeria considered revolting. The second, The Suitcase or the Coffin, looks at the massive wave of Algerian immigrants who poured into France following the country's declaration of national independence on July 3, 1962.
