Battlefield Detectives: Native American Wars - The Apache

Historically speaking, many Native American tribes were better armed, wealthier, and more effectively organized than the Apache, but on a curious note, few could outmaneuver them in battle. This documentary program from The History Channel delves into two key conflicts from Apache history - the 1880 Hembrillo battle, and the 1854 Battle of Cieneguilla - to determine just which factors accounted for the tremendous (and consistent) Apache success. Forensic scientists and archaeologists turn up onscreen to study and evaluate Apache weaponry, especially as it played a pivotal role in their last decisive battle (against the U.S. Army). The experts also ask probing questions about why the Native Americans suffered defeat in that particular instance.
