"A true-life survival story is unfolded in the compelling made-for-TV film Shackleton. Presented on three DVDs, the 200-minute movie is featured in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. While there are a few inherent imperfections to be found (colors sometimes seem far too bright while a small amount of edge enhancement is present), overall, this is a fine-looking transfer with solid colors and dark black levels. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround in English and supports the film well. While a newly created 5.1 mix would have been welcome, this 2.0 track is clear, concise, and mostly confined to the front sound stage only. No subtitles are included on this disc. The extra features on this multiple disc set should thrill fans wanting to know more about the true-life story that inspired this film. ""Breaking the Ice: The Making of Shackleton"" is an almost hour-long documentary that features actor Kenneth Branagh and the film crew tirelessly working in the frozen arctic of Greenland. Next up is an A&E biography on the real Ernest Shackleton which gives viewers a wealth of information on his life, work and personal successes. Finally there is a 90-minute documentary on the history of Antarctic exploration which includes wealth of knowledge on Shackleton, the expeditions and what it's like to be in the cold, dangerous tundra."
