A Dedicated Life [With Book]

This Japanese documentary pays tribute to provocative author Mitsuharu Inoue. It also chronicles his death from cancer in May 1992. Originally the purpose of the film was to chronicle a 10-year period in Inoue's life, but the focus changed after he was diagnosed. At one point the writer led the Japanese Communist Party. He was tossed out after he criticized the party in his writing. He was a charismatic man and apparently had many women, despite being married to a devoted wife. Scenes include his lectures, his time alone writing, and an explicit scene detailing his liver surgery.
