In this western, an Army Scout (James Garner) conceals the vengeful feelings in his heart but secretly keeps an eye cocked for those who murdered his wife while he helps guide a shipment of guns through Indian country. He is assisted by a former Army officer (Sidney Poitier). When the journey goes awry, the two heroes team up to keep attacking Indians at bay.
