The High Commissioner

An Australian policeman is sent to London to arrest the High Commissioner for the murder of his first wife. Scobie Malone (Rod Taylor) is reluctant to make the trip because he believes the arrest is politically motivated. Sir James Quentin (Christopher Plummer) is the suspect who gently but firmly refuses to go until peace negotiations have been completed. Malone stays with Quentin and his second wife Sheila (Lilli Palmer) to keep an eye on things. The tough investigator grows fond of the genteel couple and begins to doubt if Sir James is really guilty. Leo McKern briefly appears as the Australian Prime Minister. Franchot Tone plays British Ambassador Townsend in a cameo role, as our hero Malone is stalked by a pair of femme fatales who are mixed up in underworld activities. The Wimbledon tennis tournament becomes the scene of an assassination attempt that goes wrong thanks to the efforts of Malone.
