Media Blitz - The Germs Story

"This video tribute to the pioneering Los Angeles punk band the Germs has been given a less-than-sterling presentation for its release on DVD. Media Blitz: The Germs Story is a two-DVD set, with disc one featuring a technically spotty video recording of a 1979 club show, running less than 20 minutes, which has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, with the audio in Dolby Digital Stereo. Also appearing on disc one is a DVD version on the Germs' compilation album Media Blitz, featuring live recordings and rare single sides from the group. Only a minimal visual presentation has been included for these songs, and they do not appear to have been remixed for this release. Disc two is headlined by a long interview with Germs drummer Don Bolles, who talks about the group, shows off items from his record collection, and frequently mentions his book about Germs frontman Darby Crash, Lexicon Devil. The interview is in full-frame, with audio in Dolby Digital Stereo and no multiple language options or closed captions. And finally, a ""slide show"" of pictures rounds out disc two, all of which appear in Bolles book. While the rare on-stage footage of the band and the interview with Bolles may be interesting for some fans, overall, this is a disappointing set which seems to tell something less than the full story of an important and fascinating band."
