Everything Is Nice: Matador 10t

"Matador Records presents music videos by 19 past and present artists from their roster. Many of the featured bands are favorites in the indie music scene. The picture quality is quite good. Fans of any of the bands should be impressed with the video and audio quality of the DVD. Videos like Yo La Tengo's ""Sugarcube"" (featuring the cast of Mr. Show) and Cat Power's ""Nude as the News"" are a joy to watch on DVD, and all the songs sound superb here. The ""Everything is Nice"" section of the DVD consists of 12 videos, which can be played in succession or selected separately from two menu screens. ""What's Up Matador"" is a bonus feature, as it was previously released on VHS; it presents 14 additional videos and relatively unfunny infomercial-style vignettes. These videos can also be selected for play separately. Selecting ""Artists"" from the main menu brings up another menu that allows viewers to select individual artists. The artist information consists of brief biographies and pictorial discographies of those Matador artists included on either program of the DVD. Viewers can also choose to play videos by the selected artists from these sub-menus. This is a nice feature for anyone looking for a quick dose of Liz Phair, Pavement, or Cornelius, but who wants to avoid some lesser-known artists like Guitar Wolf or Arsonists. Fans of one or more bands on the Matador roster should be very happy with this DVD release."
