The Robert Pollard: The Devil Went Home and Puked

"Former Guided By Voices front man Robert Pollard helped compile this collection of live performances, music videos and assorted hijinx covering GbV's glory days and Pollard's subsequent solo career. The Devil Went Home And Pukes: Robert Pollard's Rock Show has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1. Much of the footage was shot by fans and friends and the band using amateur equipment, and the results look and sound homemade, though the smaller amount of professionally filmed material is fine. The audio was mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, and the fidelity is inconsistent for the same reasons as the images, though the mastering is clearly not the problem, just the source materials. The songs and dialogue are in English, with no multiple language options or subtitles included. As a bonus, this release also includes a tongue-in-cheek Guided by Voices ""memorial video"" (created for the band's final show and also featured on the concert documentary Guided by Voices: The Electrifying Conclusion) and a short film of a theater piece adapted from Pollard's song ""Gold Star For Robot Boy"". The disc also offers the option of watching most of the music videos without the surrounding material. Loyal fans of Pollard's ""low-fi"" work should be entertained by The Devil Went Home And Puked, but if you're looking for an audio-visual introduction to his music, try The Electrifying Conclusion or Live From Austin, TX: Guided by Voices instead."
