A gifted 12-year-old girl (Talitha Bateman) lives with her mentally challenged mother (Jessica Collins), and is cared for by her next-door neighbor (Alfre Woodard). She travels alone from Nevada to New York, hoping to learn more about her family's past. Over the course of her journey, she meets people and uncovers secrets that will change her life forever.
