"This documentary on a handful of rural bluesmen who represent the last direct connection to the rural blues styles of the 1920s and '30s, and a younger man who is intent upon putting their music into the stores before it's too late gets a straightforward presentation on this DVD release. You See Me Laughin' has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Given the hodgepodge of source materials used to assemble the film, the disc looks quite good (if not exceptional), and the audio gives the raw, raucous music the presence it deserves. The disc features no frills -- no subtitles, bonus features, or trailers -- though that somehow seems fitting in the tradition of this music, and blues fans who like their music straight with no chaser will want to check out this release."
