The Stockard Channing Show [2 Discs]

"Stockard Channing entered the limelight in the 1970s with acclaimed supporting turns in movies including The Fortune by Mike Nichols, The Cheap Detective by Robert Moore and Neil Simon, and Grease by Randal Kleiser. Then, in 1979 and 1980, CBS made two very earnest attempts to turn Channing into a situation comedy star along the lines of Marlo Thomas and Mary Tyler Moore - with less success than That Girl or The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The first, Stockard Channing in Just Friends, ran from March through August 1979; in it, Channing played Susan Hughes, a new arrival in Los Angeles who took a job at a Beverly Hills health spa called the Fountain of Youth, run by Milt D'Angelo (Lou Criscuolo). The second, The Stockard Channing Show (March-June 1980), introduced only a slight variation on this formula: Channing starred as Susan Goodenow, a new arrival in Los Angelis working as a consumer advocate at a television station. Ron Silver co-starred as Brad Gabriel, Susan's egomaniacal employer. This box set contains both series in their entirety, as they originally aired on CBS."
