You Got to Move: Stories of Change in the South

This is an award-winning documentary on the struggle for social improvements and reform in the Southern U.S. Interviews with activists are not all doom-and-gloom but include some hand-clapping music and humorous dialogue that adds a needed perspective to the issues at hand. The point of the documentary is that social injustice, racism, industrial abuse, women's and gay rights, and many other causes still need attention. If people were to give up on these issues, they would get worse. Of special focus is the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee that works directly for social change -- and as a consequence, has been repeatedly attacked by State authorities as "subversive." These attacks are documented by archival footage, newspaper articles, and photographs.
