The Last Frontier

Still known as Creighton Chaney, Lon Chaney, Jr. starred in this independently produced Western serial released by RKO in 12 chapters. Chaney plays a crusading newspaper editor who, in the disguise of The Black Ghost and with assistance from the likes of General George Armstrong Custer (William Desmond) and Wild Bill Hickock (Yakima Canutt), defends the settlers and an Indian tribe from greedy outlaw Tiger Morris (Richard R. Neill). The only serial ever released by RKO, The Last Frontier was a remake of a 1926 feature film starring William Boyd.
