Some background may be helpful here: musicians Jack Rose (1971-2009) and Glenn Jones had much in common, given the fact that each, in his own way, pioneered finger-style performance on the solo steel-string guitar. Though often typed as folk musicians, Jones and Rose were in truth influenced by a whole litany of genres, including American avant garde, folk and even Indian ragas. More specifically, both belonged to a unique musical school known as the "Tahoma School" (aka 'American Primitive') begun in the late 1950s by musical iconoclast John Fahey. It therefore makes great sense that the two would team up for a series of shared concerts. The release The Things That We Used to Do pays homage to the musicians' art. An intimate performance film, shot at a loft in Brooklyn, it features live numbers by Rose and Jones, performed solo and in tandem, without an audience present.
