Pink Flamingos [25th Anniversary Edition]

"The film often hailed as ""Prince of Puke"" director John Waters' crown jewel, Pink Flamingos gets the royal treatment on New Line Home Entertainment's special 25th Anniversary Edition. The visual presentation of Waters' first color feature is generally solid aside from some grain inherent to the source material and some minor speckling. Though it certainly isn't up to the visual standards of modern features released to DVD, the film truly looks as good as it probably can without some major (and very expensive) restoration. Audio is offered in both closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Mono and Surround with optional English subtitles. Both tracks are satisfying and relatively free of distortion or hiss. Of course, longtime fans of John Waters know well the veteran shocker's skills as a speaker and writer, and his commentary track for the feature is consistently entertaining. From recalling the antics of Divine, Edith Massey, and the original Dreamland players to his unforgettable recollection of the film's notorious coda, Waters offers a rare commentary that is nearly as entertaining as the film itself. Deleted scenes hosted by the director himself are a real treat for fans of the film who can't get enough of Waters' outrageous classic, and in addition to introducing each scene, Waters has also recorded audio commentary for the footage. A theatrical trailer that shows absolutely no footage from the feature and utilizes New York Magazine's ""Beyond Pornography"" quote is sure to pique the interest of the uninitiated and remains as effective an advertisement today as when Pink Flamingos was first unleashed into theaters back in 1972."
