Full Bottom: Not Another Half-Arsed DVD Set! [3 Discs]

"Rising from the ashes of the legendary cult BBC series The Young Ones, comics Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson return to television comedy with the hilarious follow-up series Bottom, arriving on DVD courtesy of BBC Video. Presented in 1.33:1 full-frame, the video as presented here is entirely acceptable considering that the majority of episodes were shot on video over a decade before this comprehensive release. Skin tones are even and pleasing, blacks are solid, and there is little evidence of pixilation or digital artifacting to be found. Likewise, the English Dolby Digital soundtrack (presented with closed captioning) offers a clear presentation of the original audio with little hiss or distortion of which to speak. While neither the audio nor video of this series was ever the selling point of this set, both are well presented, and the fact that the series made it to U.S. shores at all will certainly be more than enough for stateside fans of British humor. Though extra features may also not be the driving factor behind the purchasing of this disc, the inclusion of some rare, early-career footage from Mayall and Edmonson is certainly a treat for stateside fans as well. Footage from the classic British television comedy series Boom Boom...Out Go the Lights offers vintage footage of the young comics as they hone their skills on-stage, both separately and as the confrontational comic duo The Dangerous Brothers. In addition to talent files, each of the three discs also come with ""Bottom Fluff,"" an amusing series of bloopers and outtakes that find the talented cast having a blast as they flub their lines and say all the naughty words that television won't allow."
