Into Great Silence

The documentary Into the Great Silence, directed by Philip Groening, follows the day-to-day lives of Monks who live in a monastery in the French Alps. Having taken a vow of silence, they made demands on Groening's filming style before allowing him to make the movie. Thee are no voiceover in the film, nor is there music other than the Gregorian chants the Monks occasionally perform. The moviemakers highlight the slow, contemplative approach the monks make to banal everyday activities.
