African Footprint [2 Discs]

The colorful stage revue +African Footprint first gestated in 1999, when innovative theatrical producer Richard Loring foresaw creating a musical portrait of South Africa on stage, cast in the mold of +Riverdance and +Stomp. Loring promptly hit the streets of the Soweto district of Johannesburg and auditioned hundreds of young hopefuls, out of which he chose, enlisted and rigorously trained thirty non-professional cast members. The resultant production uses a combination of traditional African dances - including gumboot, Kwela-jive and pantsula - and South African instrumental sounds, including the African drum and the pennywhistle - to play out the unique and colorful history of South Africa on stage. The home video release African Footprint features a film of this live stage show.
