"This British documentary on the myriad influences that have informed Bob Dylan's music over the course of his career gets a simple but effective presentation on DVD. Down The Tracks: The Music That Influenced Bob Dylan (which, by the way, doesn't feature any of Dylan's own music or performances) has been transferred to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, letterboxed on conventional televisions and enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16x9 monitors. The original footage looks fine, as does most of the archival material, though the relevance of some of the images is a bit hard to fathom. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo and sounds quite good, though some archival recordings feature an inevitable degree of extraneous noise. The interviews are in English, with optional subtitles in English and French. No bonus material has been included. While Down The Tracks won't tell many loyal Dylan fans much that they don't already know, it's an engaging exploration of the great songwriter's back pages with some fine performances of classic folk and blues material, and it merits a look for followers of American roots music."
