Czech composer Christophe Willibald Gluck left an indelible impact on the opera, helping to move the genre out of the Baroque world and into the Classical one. His 1776 French opera ALCESTE is often thought to be his most innovative work -- one of intense passion and emotion. Recorded at the Staatsoper Stuttgart 2006.
