As one who redefined the term "iconoclast," Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) turned the art world upside down with a one-man Dadaist period called "Merz." That movement shocked everyone with its groundbreaking union of literature, architecture, painting and sculpture. But the greatest crisis involving Schwitters happened posthumously, with a blizzard of inheritance lawsuits involving Kurt's heirs, his mistress, the Marlborough Gallery and the Norwegian government. As directed by Simon Chu, this 1996 documentary travels inside of the tumultuous events that followed the artist's passing, unveiling a strange, harrowing and scandalous tale.
