"This box set pays homage to the great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, with three different productions of Verdi operas performed over a 28-year period. First on the bill is the Wiener Staatsoper's 1978 interpretation of +Il Trovatore, starring Raina Kabaivanska and Placido Domingo and directed and conducted by Herbert von Karajan; next up is the Wiener Staatsoper's 2004 production of +Don Carlos, starring Ramon Vargas and Iano Tamar and directed for the stage by Peter Konwitschny, with Bertrand de Billy conducting. Last on the bill is the Zurich Opera House's 2006 production of +Rigoletto, co-starring Leo Nucci and Elena Mosuc. It is directed for the stage by Gilbert Deflo, with Nello Santi conducting."
