Francesco Cavalli's 1641 +Didone wears a historical footnote, as the earliest surviving opera adapted from the Dido/Trojan warrior romance in Virgil's +Aeneid. This 2011 production by +Les Arts Florissants stars Anna Bonitatibus in the title role, Kresimir Spicer as Enea, Xavier Sabata as Iarba, and Maria Streijffert as Ecuba. William Christie conducts, Cl?ment Hervieu-L?ger directs for the stage, ?ric Ruf designed the sets, and Caroline De Vivaise created the costumes.
