The second part of Wagner's four-part cycle of operas Der Ring des Nibelungen. In it Brunnhilde defies her father Wotan by protecting a mortal woman, Sieglinde, and he punishes her by making her mortal too but surrounding her with Magic Fire which only a true hero will overcome. Brunnhilde and her Valkyrie sisters assemble to the well-known Ride of the Valkyries.
